Install yourself

Follow the provided instructions to clean your car and apply the PPF according to the pre-cut templates

So, this is a detailed guide on how to install a protective film on your car. It doesn't matter if you just bought a bumper wrap or a full front; once you grasp the basics of wrapping, you’ll nail it! Trust me! To make things easier, it’s a good idea to have a friend, spouse, neighbor, or even a passerby help you out—especially when you’re working on the hood. We really recommend sticking to this guide and checking out some YouTube videos. That way, you’ll get more info and find a film application technique that works best for you. Alright, let’s kick things off with washing your car. Give it a good wash using only a neutral shampoo—nothing fancy with additives or scents. Avoid shampoos with wax or ceramics, or the film won’t stick! After the first wash, apply some iron remover. You can find it at any auto shop or Walmart. This will help remove any metal particles from the paint, which is especially important for lighter colors. Just follow the instructions, rinse it off, and wash the car again. The better you prep your car for the film, the better the final result will be. Make sure to rinse out all the nooks and crannies between parts. Open the hood and clean around the fenders and between the headlights. Wipe down the car, grab a drink—water, coffee, or even a beer—and let’s keep going. Best weather condition for PPF installation is 70F-75F. You’ll apply the film using a “wet” method. Spray the film and the panel; this activates the adhesive for a few minutes so it starts sticking. For positioning the film, we use a slip solution (SS) and for fixing it, a tack solution (TS). SS is just a mix of water and baby shampoo—1 part shampoo to 100 parts water. That’s about 10 ml of shampoo in 1 liter of water. We recommend using Johnson’s baby shampoo. TS is a mix of water and isopropyl alcohol (you can get 90% at Walmart)—1 part alcohol to either 10 or 8 parts water. So, that’s about 100 ml of alcohol in 1 liter of water. Make sure the water is distilled or bottled—definitely not tap water! Otherwise, you might end up with spots under the film. Just stick to regular drinking water from the store or distilled water. No tap water—really! Grab any spray bottle you like or can find in your garage. You’ll need two spray bottles. Usually, about half a gallon of the mix is enough for the hood and bumper. Before applying the film, check if you have enough SS and TS ready. Now, about the film—it’s clear and stretchable. Not a ton, but it does stretch. All car models require some stretching, and yours is no different, unless you have a CyberTruck. Right after you install the film, you might notice some faint spots and streaks. That’s totally normal! They’ll disappear by the next day. But try to avoid air bubbles; if you see any, add a bit of SS to that spot and push the soapy solution out with a squeegee. If you find dirt or hair trapped under the film, lift it up, remove the debris, add some SA/TS, and stick the film back down. If you accidentally miss a big air bubble, you can poke it with an insulin syringe to drain the water. The needle is super thin, so the hole won’t be visible once it seals with the adhesive. Start with small parts! Gain experience and feel the film! How it pulls, how the water is forced out from under the film. Don't start with the hood or bumper right away! Don’t use pure alcohol on headlights; it can cause a million tiny cracks in the plastic. Now it’s time to apply the film! Prep your template, spray some SS on the panel, and squeegee off any water (water collects dust and tiny particles). Spray SS on the panel again. Remove the liner from the template and spray SS on both sides of the film. Be careful not to let the film stick to itself. Lay the adhesive side onto the panel and let it take the shape of the part. Use TS to secure one edge, stretch the film if needed, and squeegee out all the water. Fix the other edges of the film to the panel. The first part will be challenging, but it gets easier after that. Start with smaller, simpler parts to build your skills. After you’ve installed the film, spray all the edges with TS so it sticks better. Let the part dry. Once you’re done, we recommend staying home for the next 24 hours. After that, check all the parts. If any spots have lifted, grab a hairdryer, heat the film, and press it down while it’s dry. Don’t wash the car for the next 7-10 days. After that, you can use the car as usual. Just don’t get too close with a pressure washer—stay at least a foot away from the film, or the pressure might peel it off. We recommend using ceramic car shampoos; they’ll help extend the lifespan of the film. Also, don’t leave your car dirty for too long or let dead bugs sit on it. The acid in their bodies can eat through the film. If you get small scratches from bushes or automatic car washes, just leave your clean car in direct sunlight or pour very hot water on the scratched area. You can even place a towel over it and pour boiling water on that, or use a hairdryer. The scratches will disappear. And that’s it! See? It’s super simple!
